چکیده

J. Nyéki,* R. Ray, B. Cowan, and J. Saunders Millikelvin Laboratory, Department of Physics, Royal Holloway University of London, Egham, Surrey, TW20 0EX, United Kingdom (Received 2 March 1998) The superfluidity of 4He films adsorbed on the atomically flat surface of graphite, preplated with HD to tune the surface binding potential, has been studied using a torsional oscillator. The superfluidity of a single uniform fluid layer of 4He shows an intrinsic coverage dependent suppression, while the fluid bilayer is fully superfluid at T 0. The contribution of nonvortex excitations in the film to the normal density shows a strong dependence on coverage, arising from the atomic layering of the film. [S0031-9007(98)06517-X]

Quasiparticle Interactions in Two - Dimensional 3 He on 4 He Films

M. Dann, J. Nyéki,* B. P. Cowan, and J. Saunders Millikelvin Laboratory, Department of Physics, Royal Holloway University of London, Egham, Surrey, TW20 0EX, United Kingdom (Received 28 January 1999) Measurements are reported of the heat capacity of 3He bound to an atomically layered 4He film on the surface of graphite. At 3He coverages n3 , 4 nm22, the 3He forms a uniform 2D Fermi system. Ther...

Visibility of atomically-thin layered materials buried in silicon dioxide.

Recently, the coating of thin oxide or nitride film on top of crystals of atomically-thin layered material (ATLM) has been introduced, which benefits optical and electrical properties of the materials and shields them from environmental contact, and has important implications for optoelectronics applications of layered materials. By calculating the reflection contrast, we show the possibility o...

Superfluidity and Superconductivity in Double-Layered Quantum Hall state

We discuss and review the basic physics that leads to superfluidity/superconductivity in certain quantum Hall states, in particular the so-called double-layered (mmm) state. In the K-matrix description of the quantum correlation in quantum Hall states, those states with det(K) = 0 contain a special correlation that leads to superfluidity/superconductivity. We propose a four-terminal measurement...

What Can We Learn from Comparison between Cuprates and He Films ? : Phase Separation and Fluctuating Superfluidity

In the underdoped, overdoped, Zn-doped or stripe-forming regions of high-Tc cuprate superconductors (HTSC), the superfluid density ns/m∗ at T → 0 shows universal correlations with Tc. Similar strong correlations exist between 2dimensional superfluid density and superfluid transition temperature in thin films of He in non-porous or porous media, and He/He film adsorbed on porous media. Based on ...

Dynamic layer rearrangement during growth of layered oxide films by molecular beam epitaxy.

The A(n+1)B(n)O(3n+1) Ruddlesden-Popper homologous series offers a wide variety of functionalities including dielectric, ferroelectric, magnetic and catalytic properties. Unfortunately, the synthesis of such layered oxides has been a major challenge owing to the occurrence of growth defects that result in poor materials behaviour in the higher-order members. To understand the fundamental physic...
